School Peace Day

World Peace Day. First recognized in 1981, this holiday asks that world leaders from every country ask their military and their people to cease fire for one day. It is a day dedicated to the absence of war.


The celebrations continue to grow as this holiday enters its third decade. Many major cities ring a peace bell. Citizens and students wear a white dove to symbolize peace. And other communities sponsor peace parades and vigils.
